fashion, food, home decor for a fickle heart

I Want...

to go to France.

The south of it, to be exact. There's something so hopelessly romantic about The South of France.

Gorgeous!

But I ain't picky about where I am in France, so long as I'm there.
I'll go to Bretagne, Lyon
...maybe swing by Paris...

Yeah, and after that I'll hop on my pegasus, make my way to Never-never land to have tea with the leprechauns and woodland nymphs

Ban the Rays

For as long as I can remember my dad's choice sunglasses has been Ray Bans. When I was a little girl, I thought he looked like the coolest dad in his aviators and I would always try and steal them from him (despite the fact that they were 14 sizes too big...now that I think about it, perhaps that's when the obsession with giant, bug-eye sunglasses began). Anywho, roughly 20 years later I got my very own pair of Ray Ban Aviators and I love, love, love them. They've become my go-to accessory. I'm like Corey Hart, wearing my sunglasses at night.

They're the first (and to date, last) pair of good quality sunglasses I've ever had. I think that plays a huge part in why I like them so much; I've dropped them and sat on them countless times and they're still as good as new, whereas my $10 pair of Aldo sunglasses, while real cute, lasted about a summer (and a Canadian summer at that...so like 3 weeks). It's to be expected, you pay for what you get.

I really like the company and if I were to buy another pair of quality sunglasses, I would definitely go with Ray Bans. These are the models I've set my sights on
Wayfarers, I know. I'm so behind, right?

I'd totally be channeling Holly Golightly in these

yeah, I know. I already have these.
I want them in silver with the mirrored lenses, but the website doesn't have them pictured, so let's give our imagination a go, shall we?

First order of business, though...Ray Ban Cats and we'll see what I can afford from there.

Since I'm on the subject of praising Ray Ban, I though I'd share their virtual mirror program. You download it and you try some sunglasses on to see how they'll suit your face. It's fun!

GO RAY BANS!!!

Oh, Alice! What a Wonderful Dress

I meant to write about this sooner, but I didn't. I procrastinated. We all have our talents, and procrastination is mine.

We went to see Alice in Wonderland, and you cannot imagine how much I was looking forward to this movie. I watched the Disney movie over and over when I was a kid (except for the part with the dodo, I had even forgotten that was in the movie. Which reminds me, did they add that part in a redux version or something?). The Mad Hatter is one of my favourite Disney characters and the Mad Tea Party, my favourite Disney scene - it cracks me up to this day. And don't even get me started on how cool the Cheshire Cat is.

Here it was, finally! Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton(!), the master of weird coolness with Johnny Depp(!) as the Mad Hatter and all the awesomeness that that entails.

I say this so that you hear me when I say that I wanted to like it. I didn't hate it and maybe my expectations were too high (though, I don't think that's the case, I get my hopes up for a lot of movies and I'm not usually always disappointed) but it fell flat. I'm not gonna go into detail but suffice it to say it wasn't worth the price of the IMAX movie ticket.

I will, however, go into detail about what I loved. The visuals! The movie looked awesome. The colours, the costumes, the make-up... it all looked great.
I love this. The flowers look just perfect.
How can one not have sky-high hopes with these shots?
I also thought the dresses that the ladies wore (when Alice is still in the real world) looked fantastic. I wish we could still dress like that and not look like we were in costume.
so pretty

While making the rounds of some of my favourite websites, I kept stumbling upon dresses, shoes and accessories that reminded me of the movie, which might've been the point.

Check out the Alice in Wonderland tour photos here.

Now, we wait to see what happens with Maleficent. That's right, ladies and gents, a re-imagining of 1959's Sleeping Beauty from the p.o.v of the bad guy. I am intrigued...

À La Hepburn

Ever since my Breakfast at Tiffany's encounter, I have become totally obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. I found this gorgeous picture while reading up on her and her other movies.
This picture is currently adorning my desktop. I just love, love, love the colours in this picture.
I'm definitely keeping this in my pictures folder for future inspiration...perhaps a wedding palette.

And while I'm on the subject on Breakfast at Tiffany's, I really liked Holly Golightly's sleeping apparel. Especially the sleeping mask (I think the ear plugs might make me feel a little too paranoid and claustrophobic)
They're so funny and quirky. Love it
AND I found an exact replica (to my untrained eyes, anyway) of the mask on Etsy. I never use the mask I have, but I totally want this one.

Spring is on Hiatus

Mother Nature's a jerk.
I fall for it every year, despite my very best efforts.
We're back to cold, damp, slushy, yucky weather! It's as if those 2 weeks of beautiful sunshine never happened. *sigh*
Freezing rain, ice pellets, snow!! Hell ain't fire and brimstone, this is Hell!

...ok, ok, I might be over-reacting, but come on...this forecast after 2 weeks of 15-degree highs?!? (that's like...59 in Fahrenheit) My theory is that all Canadians (except for those douch...I mean, people in B.C.) did something very bad in a previous life and this is our punishment.

Spring is Here!!

I know I've going on and on about the arrival of spring...and I think it's finally here to stay. When I feel these types of delusions coming on I try to remind myself that it has snowed in April in past years. Unfortunately, that does nothing to deter my positive, sunny outlook.
It's time to start looking into some spring fashion trends -I suppose I'm a little late on that, they're often as early as February. As much as I love all this fashion crap, I can't sign up on some styles. But then there are those that I just can't get enough of...

Florals

Chiffon

Ruffles

Denim

Fusion

I just found this blog and I think it'll really help me with my cooking rut. Just like the author of Closet Cooking, we stick to what we know. We try new things once in a while, but I'd really like to get into cooking  so that I can get to a point where I'm confident enough to try making my own recipes.

The shrimp stir-fry, steak and fries and crab salad, while tasty, are starting to get old
The first thing I want to try: Chicken Satay Quesadillas with Spicy Peanut Dipping Sauce

Looks delicious, right?

Fajitas and Breakfast

I'm not talking about breakfast fajitas. I'm talking about fajitas for supper and Breakfast at Tiffany's. That's a quick summary of my evening.

I came across this post on Lake Jane and thought it would be interesting to try for supper. It might not be an unusual meal for some, but I had never had shrimp fajitas, mango salsa and I've tasted avocado probably 3 times in my life...so it was really exciting to make this "exotic" meal.

Something this pretty can't be bad!

Mango Salsa:
1 mango
1 red bell pepper
1 green onion
lemon juice
cilantro
hot sauce
YUM!

Colour me impressed. I've always been reluctant to have food with mango in it that wasn't dessert. What a fool I was!
Et voila le tout!

This was so good and easy to make. And the best part...

LEFTOVERS!

And now for some Breakfast at Tiffany's in bed (haha). Nothing but new experiences tonight! I've never seen it (I think my mom fell off her chair when I admitted that to her). I hear it's like a big deal or something.

Cheers

Boys Will Be Boys

This picture makes me smile

Oh, What A Perfect Day

I find it's crazy how much my mood can be affected by the weather. After the dreary winter months, the feel of warm sunshine streaming through the window or a breeze sweeping through the apartment on a mild day, the sound of children playing (that's right, I said the sound of children playing in the street!) make me beyond happy!

I went for a walk to the pharmacy to pick up a few things. It was so warm...halfway there I felt like turning around and going home to change into something lighter.

The soudtrack to my day:
I believe in memories they look so, so pretty when I sleep
And when I wake up you look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time
And there is no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together

My favourite song from this album and my official spring song.

I hope everyone had the chance to enjoy some sunshine today. Have a good one!
